THINGS WERE HOT IN ARKANSAS!
A Summary Report of the 2003 Show Banquet

Galen L. Goss, Secretary

Mr. Peter Vorster, of the Arkansas Rilla Dollar Chrysanthemum Society, called the 60th Annual Awards Banquet of NCS to order. He welcomed everyone and introduced the Honorable Ray Baker, Mayor of Fort Smith. Mr. Baker presented several official proclamations recognizing the Convention and Show and a number of members of the National Chrysanthemum Society and the local host chapter. The President of NCS, Mr. John Lowry, received a plaque and the key to the city. The mayor also presented Mr. Ted King, of King’s Chrysanthemums, with a special plaque for developing the “Fort Smith” chrysanthemum. The Mayor’s enthusiasm and exuberance was evident throughout his presentations at the Banquet and at each of the official mum functions that he attended.

Mr. Vorster read a proclamation from the Honorable Mike Huckabee, Governor of Arkansas, in which he proclaimed October 13 – 19, 2003, as Chrysanthemum Week in Arkansas.

The annual roll call showed that there were 45 NCS members representing 17 chapters, 3 general members, and 14 guests attending the Awards Banquet.

Mr. Richard Boydston, NCS Awards Chair, and Mr. Lowry presented NCS and show awards. Click here for list of trophy award winners]

Mr. Lowry installed Mr. Wayne Wight as the new president of NCS. He presented Mr. Wight with the president’s gavel and the NCS President’s Pin.

Mr. Vorster closed the banquet with a final thank you to everyone for coming.
